Explorations are designed to introduce students to three different fields of work and study in a two-week Academy term. This survey approach to learning enables students to make cross-disciplinary connections and informed decisions about their academic and career choices.
Course Topics Summer Academy enables students to dive deep into a course of study, sharpening skills for their academic and professional careers.
Each course is carefully designed to suit student interests and encourage intellectual curiosity. Storytelling is an important skill for articulating emotions that resonate with an audience. Students will discover the basic components of well-constructed stories and learn the secrets of building strong creative narratives that effectively use stories to communicate ideas.
Students will study photojournalism both as a practical and an aesthetic venture while developing their visual vocabulary through the study of important photographers and photojournalists. The intent is to translate what the student sees and feels — whether through the use of a professional DSLR or a smartphone camera — into photographs that express an artistic, narrative or journalistic perspective.
Students will create original theater pieces by mashing up bits of literature, music, sound effects, found objects, found spaces and movement lifted from viral videos. Seasoned ERS company members will teach students how to collaboratively create theater from unconventional texts.
